Completed Horse Archers.

The first batch of A&A horse archers are now complete. More will be ordered later today.

First Two Horse Archers & a Friend.

Finally after a mid season dip in form finished a couple of Parthian horse archers, here they are below pictured against HGA's Blue Yonder sky simulation system ( pat pending).

Yet to be based, down to simple mid season laziness on my part; but when I get round to it they'll be on the 40mm round bases I use for skirmishing cavalry.

I think I'm beginning to like these fellows, they're actually quite nice to paint and Foundry's figures are just too expensive to be a viable alternative. Though I think I may cheat and use the unit I already have (see reprobates from the steppes) as part of the Parthian horde.

The Seven Dwarves.

Found these old Denizen Multi part dwarves at the back of the figures cabinet grumbling about being neglected so let them out for a run round an equally antiquated torchlight dungeon.

Ship of the Desert.

The Thundering Horde now has luggage.

Why take a suitcase when a spitting, bad tempered camelid is an alternative.

At last an Occidental Equine Toxophile.

Or more mundanely an horse archer:

He is one of A&A's casualties: note the blighty wound inflicted by a pointed implement of some description.
For comparison purposes here he is pictured with a Foundry Scythian:

With regard to moving the Parthian Horde forward I'm still undecided whether to carry on with A&A for the horse archers(£8.99 for 3, free postage) or substitute Foundry Scythians (£13.00 for 3, lots of postage) which I prefer from an aesthetic point of view. What price beauty eh?

The "Thundering Horde".

The Parthian project continues to gain momentum, not yet a thundering horde, but from small acorns and all that.

Note that no expense has been spared with the scenery now updated with technicolour blue sky.
Thanks also to Caliban for inspiring todays headline.

Parthian Command

A couple of command figures that will be the nucleus of my second unit of cataphracts.

I can't vouch for the authenticity of the lion standard as its from one of A&A's Palmyran command packs, but it does look suitably martial.

More Parthian Shots.

Just finished basing the first batch of Parthian cataphracts, the results can be seen below:

Really enjoying painting these chaps, it makes for  a nice change after hundreds of phalangites and their many thousand pteruges.

Arsacid King.

Finished painting the Parthian Army General:

But have gone slightly blind in the process. Repeating patterns are all very well, hard on the eyes though.
The miniature is an A&A Palmyran general hijacked back through time to 2nd century Parthia, I hope he  passes muster in his new role.
